The gallery evolved from the art of Dr. Martha Whelan Krampf, who thinks of herself as a "psychotherapist who paints." Krampf began painting her early memories of favorite places, settings and scenes, and gave many of her paintings a home in her office. People began to relate feelings of calmness when viewing these scenes, many times identifying the settings with their own past experiences.
